The State Department has released their Visa Bulletin for the month of April, 2022. The visa bulletin should generally be utilized by immigrants who are subject to the quota system based on their nationality and the visa category they are applying for. The visa bulletin focuses heavily on employment based visas, such as in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th preference categories.

Visa applicants who are expecting a final action date on their visa application should still refer to the March, 2022 bulletin, given that it is not April yet. However, the State Department releases the Visa Bulletin for the next month in advance so that applicants can understand their wait times in relation to priority dates as well as dates for filing.

Changes in Employment Categories

The first major change in the final action date chart, which is the first chart in the employment based preference categories, is EB2 for Indian applicants. In March, the final action date for EB2 applicants from India is May 1st, 2013, however this date has advanced by 2 months in April. The new final action date for next month will be July 8th, 2013. Applicants should refer to their priority date to see if they will receive final action.

We are also seeing on the final action date chart in April that the Certain Religious Workers category remains “U”, or unavailable. For reference, this means that all visa numbers in this category are temporarily unavailable. If there is any legislative action extending the category, it will become “Current” effective immediately for all countries except those from Central America (El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala)—which will revert to a May 1st, 2017 final action date.

Scrolling to the next chart in the employment based preference categories—Dates for Filing, there are also some changes worth mentioning for April. The “Other Workers” category has advanced in April by a month for Chinese applicants. The new date for filing in April will be August 1st, 2015. In addition, EB2 applicants from India have a major advancement in terms of date for filing. This month, the Date for Filing for EB2 applicants from India is September 1st, 2013. The date for filing in April has advanced to September 1st, 2014.
